This is a comp. I’ve never been asked to draw anything for the Magazine but have partaken in more than a few funny conversations lately about how many awards Arem Dulplessis and the folks at the New York Times Magazine can win. Last weekend Peter Buchanan-Smith was over and we had exact the same conversation Scott and I had the week before, which is: How come they’re allowed to win so many awards when they never have to actually consider sales (the magazine is free to subscribers). Most magazines have type on the cover. Oh, how Cumbersome! Well, here is how the Magazine might appear if played on everyone else’s field. With all the Obama covers flying around lately I think this one could stand out quite well on the rack. Anyone want it? Great. Give daddy some lovin’ (and money).
This illustration is derived from some Obama imagery left over from a job for The New York Times (Thursday, Feb 21) art director(s), Brian Rea & Kim Bost. Here is a look at the original printed illustration.
Oh, I have a few loose-linear style Obama portraits in the works too. Let me know if you need a look-see.
